Classic
Ford Of The Year: the result!
Wayne
Hankins' Zetec Anglia
The lines are
closed, the votes have been counted, and we can
exclusively reveal that the Classic Ford Of The
Year - as voted for by you - is Wayne Hankins'
Zetec-powered Anglia!
It's not hard to
see why. Getting bubble arches to look right on
an Anglia is a hard thing to achieve, but here
it's been pulled off well, and that's down to the
bodywork skills of Martin Paynter and his team at
The Escort Agency. Wayne then had the shell
resprayed in a variation of Performance Blue - as
seen on Mondeo STs and the like - and it works a
treat.
Originally, Wayne
had planned to drop a hot Crossflow under the
bonnet, but Martin persuaded him to go for a
2-litre Zetec, now running a Weber-Alpha throttle
body kit, which doesn't look out of place thanks
to the use of a pair of pancake K&N filters.
Mated to a Type-9 five-speed, and an LSD-equipped
standard axle, fortunately Wayne had the good
sense to uprate the standard suspension to suit,
calling on a Milton rack conversion and
coil-overs up front, while the axle is braced
with an A-frame kit. 7-inch Superlites fill those
arches rather nicely.
All in all it's a
perfect mix of classic looks with modern
underpinnings; it's something that the old Ford
scene is currently led by, and one that - thanks
to inspiring cars like Wayne's - will remain
popular for years to come.
Congratulations to
Wayne, and if you missed the original feature,
