Connecting Rods with Larger Bolts

anglia New "Anglia" (1959 onwards) (997cc engine only)

From approximate engine number - 105E-588929
the connecting rods have been modified to incorporate larger big end bolts.

Current connecting rods can be identified by the length of the bolts, 1 3/4 in (44.45mm) approximately, and their thread size 11/32 – 24 – UNF – 3A compared with the length, 1 5/8 in (41.3mm) approximately, and thread size 5/16 – 24 – UNF – 3B of the former.

Although it is physically possible to fit a small diameter bolt to a current connecting rod, and possibly tighten the bolt to the correct torque, the thread of the bolt will strip in service. Therefore it is essential that only a 11/32 bolt is fitted to a current connecting rod and tightened to a torque of 20 to 25 lb.ft (2.76 to 4.1 kg.m)

The part numbers of the current and former connecting rods are tabulated below:-
