The History
In 1965 the Chief Constable of the Lancashire County Constabulary made several visits to the USA, where he noticed that most police cars over there were black with white doors. He brought the idea over so that each police officer could be given a unique car, totally different to the standard black patrol cars, which the public could easily identify. To help achieve this they were painted in a unique blue colour with white doors and a half white roof. After experimenting with a Ford Zephyr the force opted to use Ford Anglia and several hundred were bought over the next few years. |
